WOW...that was a long break!!!

I am back after a long stint in the contract arena to post some more good stuff. Speaking of "good stuff "....AUTODESK INVENTOR FUSION!!! Check it out at this link or click on the header... http://labs.autodesk.com/technologies/fusion/

There is some crazy stuff going on here...change manager...which is basically history based modeling in a new way. If this is going the way I think it is, I smell the ability for multi-threaded processing in a CAD program coming soon.

A Joggle in the Park

I have had several people in the last week ask me, "how do I make a joggle in the sheet metal in Inventor"? Well I am sure there are alot more of you who want to know how to do this in 2010. So I am going to show you right now....(by the way this is going to be a short entry this time because this is so easy).

1. Start the FLANGE command.

2. Set the FLANGE ANGLE to "0" (that's a zero just in case you were wondering).

3. The next step we need to do is use the drop down arrows in the lower right corner and check the OLD METHOD BOX.

4. Next pick the edge you want to create the joggle on. (If you see the preview life is good).

Hit "OK" and that's it......told ya.....short and easy.

Talk to you all later.....hope this helps.

The State of the Union Addressed

Two score and something days ago I posted last and it has been far too long...The whole face of the world has changed and I haven't placed anything on here about it. Autodesk has released it's 2010 line up and it is huge....200+ Enhancements to Inventor alone. Sheet metal is incredible...all I have to say is 2 minute square to rounds....the new plastics features are amazing with help from Moldflow which is an Autodesk company now...Sorry Solidworks :(
If you all could see me as I'm writing this there is a smile they would have to surgically remove on my face. Multi-part FEA....yep I said it Multi-part FEA....built into Inventor...no seperate programs to open and transition back and forth to, no extra program taking up valueable memory. Oh.....did I mention the new interface...think if Office 2007 and Inventor had a kid, it would be Inventor 2010. I know some people cringe at the new interfaces...but this one doesn't take any time to get used to. (The answer is yes...you can change it back to classic style if you REALLY must....Application Options is where you go).

Now for the thing that wipes the smile off of all of our faces....the economy.
Autodesk knows we're all hurting because of the state of things...some of us have experienced a reduction in hours, some of us have had to take a pay cut, and some have lost our jobs. Like they said in Batman Begins, "Why do we fall....so we can learn to pick ourselves up". Autodesk has graciously extended it's student edition to everyone for 13 months on several different programs...AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit Architecture, Autodesk Inventor Professional, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D software. This will allow you to stay up on technology in your down time. They are also offering several other programs but rather than go into all of that I'll let you read the official stuff here...http://pressreleases.autodesk.com/index.php?s=press_releases&item=553%3C%2Ftd%3E.

Stay tuned for more shortly.

Thanks,
Scott

US CAD site update.....Digital Prototyping

I am happy to announce our website at US CAD has been updated to include info about Digital Prototyping. "What is Digital Prototyping?" you ask.....The ability to create a 3D representation of your product and validate parameters in the computer environment reducing the amount of physical testing. Our newly modified site gives accounts from major manufacturers about their use of digital prototyping to get to market sooner with a more reliable product, as well as some cool videos using Autodesk Showcase, Alias, and other Autodesk Products. Sooooo come check out our site (just click on the title of this post to go to the site) and tell me what you think.

The New Guy

I can hardly believe I have joined the team here at US CAD!!! It's a dream come true for a guy who vary rarely is quiet and loves to design and manufacture products too. I will be updating this blog regularly with all the cool stuff I get to do by being "in the loop" for Autdesk products. I am totally excited to be able to show all my readers all the latest and greatest Autodesk has to offer in the manufacturing realm. Lastly.....but far from least.....Inventor Beta 2010 is totally amazing and I can't wait to be able to say anything about it other than "WOW!!!!!" 8^D
